Aaaaaaand we’re back! Did you miss us? We’ve certainly missed you! It’s been a whirlwind few days – this time 48 hours ago we had just finished our first read-through of the script, and today we were off-book for the first time (cue dramatic music). The rehearsal process of touring is both exhausting and exhilarating, and even though I am not new to touring this year, it still manages to knock me off my feet – in the best way, of course.
So we’ve been finding ourselves once again on the island of Hurlevent, which we visited in last year’s VILLAGES, and our story imagines a school that has been built there. Founded by a mysterious teacher by the name of Rose Fleur, L’école Détours was conceived as an ‘art-éco’ school: teaching appreciation for the natural world through art and community. We can’t wait to share this story with you all, and boy, do we have a lot to share…. talking seagulls lamenting the lack of ‘good garbage’, plants on the roof that have problems of their own, a teacher struggling to help her students understand Rose Fleur’s vision, and those same students seeking balance and attempting to learn how to embody l’ésprit d’équipe.
Tomorrow, we’ll get to play around with costumes! Things are getting more and more exciting….
